Carouline Privacy Policy

Effective

The short version:

Who we are

Carouline is an iOS app by Aidan Follestad (“we”, “us”) for creating photo collages and carousels. It lets you arrange photos in layouts, spread a panorama across slides, add image and text layers, and export the results. This policy explains what the app uses, where information goes, and the choices you have.

Photos and camera permissions

Carouline uses Apple’s system photo picker to import images. The picker gives the app the images you select; choosing images this way doesn’t grant access to your entire photo library. Carouline makes its own local copies so you can continue editing your projects.

The app requests additional permissions only for the features below:

PermissionWhen it’s used
Camera When you choose to take a photo for a slide. The capture is added to your project; it isn’t automatically saved to Photos.
Add to Photos When you choose Save to Photos to save exported slides. Permission to add images alone doesn’t let the app read your library.
Photo library access To recover a project image if its local copy becomes unavailable. The app uses the original photo’s library identifier. It can try recovery automatically if you’ve already allowed access; otherwise, it asks when you choose to restore the image. You can grant access to selected photos rather than your entire library.

You can change camera and Photos permissions in your device’s Settings app. Denying a permission prevents the feature that needs it from working. Revoking Photos access doesn’t delete copies you’ve already imported into a project.

Carouline doesn’t request access to your location, contacts, or microphone.

What’s stored on your device

Carouline stores your work in its private app storage, protected by iOS:

Editing, image processing, and rendering happen on your device. Carouline doesn’t provide its own cloud storage or project synchronization service.

Saving and sharing

When you save slides to Photos, Carouline adds the exported images to your photo library. When you use Share, iOS passes the exported image files to the destination you choose, such as another app, AirDrop, or Files. Exported filenames include the project’s name.

The recipient app or service handles those files under its own privacy policy. Sharing with a social media or cloud service may upload them to that service. Carouline doesn’t publish your projects or send them to other apps automatically.

Apple services and backups

If an image you select or restore is stored in iCloud Photos, Apple’s photo services may download it to your device. Images you save to Photos may also sync through iCloud Photos if you’ve enabled it.

Your device’s iCloud or computer backups may include Carouline’s local project data. These backups are separate from an app-operated cloud service and are controlled by your device and backup settings. See what iCloud Backup includes and Apple’s Privacy Policy for more information.

Collection, analytics, and tracking

If you choose to share diagnostics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may provide us with crash reports and usage statistics. Apple controls that sharing, and you can turn off Share With App Developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements. See Apple’s App Analytics & Privacy information.

Deleting your data

Your projects remain in Carouline until you delete them. Deleting a project removes its saved content and stored source-image copies. Temporary import and export files are cleared as described above. Deleting the app, rather than offloading it, removes its local app data.

Deleting an original image from Photos doesn’t remove a copy already imported into Carouline. Likewise, deleting a project or the app doesn’t delete originals or exports in Photos, files you’ve shared elsewhere, or copies in existing device backups. Manage those separately in Photos, the destination app or service, or your backup settings.

Children

Carouline doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.

Open source

Carouline’s source code is public on GitHub, so you can inspect how the app handles your data.

Changes to this policy

If the way Carouline handles data changes, we’ll update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app.
